1. How can I register as a vendor to the United Nations Procurement Division?
UNPD is proud to be a partner in the United Nations Common vendor Database, so please visit the United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) in order to register as a potential vendor.

3. I have been approved as a UNPD vendor but I have never been invited to bid.
This may be because the product or service you offer is rarely required, and we simply haven't needed to buy any.
 
4. I heard there is a bid going on for "xyz" product or service. I want to participate. Who shall I contact?
You are encouraged to contact procurement officers for information on procurement action related to the product or services you may offer. If it is for United Nations Headquarters in New York, you may also contact the headquarters Procurement Section via fax at 1 212 963 0377. If it is for away from Headquarters, you may also contact the Missions and Projects Procurement Section via fax at 1 212 963 3746. Please note that you will still need to undertake the same registration process before your firm would normally be considered.
 
5. Are UN purchases tax/duty free?
As an inter-governmental organization, the UN is exempt from payment of taxes and duties for its purchases.
 
6. As a US firm, should my company quote based on GSA contract?
The UN seeks the lowest price you can offer.
 
7. We are producers/manufacturers of "xyz". Can we invite the United Nations to attend when we hold demonstrations in my country?
PD does not normally make specific visits to individual companies. However, the UN system regularly; organizes business seminars which include visits to select industries.
 
8. Could you give me names of people from the United Nations who are in charge of (e.g. computers, office  supplies, etc.).

9. How much is the minimum asset required to qualify as a vendor to the UN?
This depends on the supply/service for which you wish to be considered for.
 
10. We have a new product that we believe the United Nations should know. Who should we talk to?

11. Can we deliver directly to the United Nations in New York for goods going to (Africa/Yugoslavia/Middle East)?

12. Does the Procurement Division conduct purchases for the whole United Nations system?
No. The Procurement Division organizes procurement for the UN Secretariat, peacekeeping missions and offices away from headquarters. These missions and offices have delegated authorities to carry out their own procurement up to established financial limits. Purchases beyond these limits are conducted  by the Procurement Division . Other UN agencies, funds, and programmes carry out their own  procurement activities within their own established rules.
 
13. Does this mean that I have to individually contact each agency, fund, and programme?
You may register with the United Nations Global Marketplace (UNGM) which is accessible by all participating UN agencies, funds, and programmes.
 
14. I want to meet with any U.N. official in the United States, New York, regarding our company's ability to provide services (or goods). Can the U.N. give me a business visa?
We are not authorized to issue visas. Visas to the United States can only be issued by the US Embassy or Consulate in your country.
 
15.How does the United Nations pay vendors?
The United Nations payment terms are normally net 30 days upon receipt of invoice and delivery of goods or performance of contractual services, whichever is later. Advance payments (such as for subscriptions) and progress payments prior to delivery of goods or performance of contractual services ordered may be approved on an exceptional basis at the discretion of the United Nations, if such payments are required pursuant to normal commercial practice or considered to be in the interest of the United Nations. The United Nations does not issue letters of credit.
 
16. Does the United Nations require performance guarantee?
The United Nations may require a successful contractor to furnish performance bonds in the United Nations  standard format or similar forms of guarantee. The amount of performance bonds/guarantees will vary depending on the nature of the requirements. For example, in case of construction contracts, the United Nations calls for performance bonds and labour and material bonds in sums equal to the total contract price. The United Nations may also include a liquidated damages clause in its contractual documents in case adherence to the schedule of delivery of goods or performance of contractual services is critical to meet the requirements of the United Nations.
 
17. As a non-US based company, would I  be advantaged if I appointed a US company or agent to act on my behalf?
No. In fact, the United Nations prefers to deal directly with Vendors. Presence in the United States results in absolutely no advantages.
