Environmental Issues Just think for a moment, take a second from your work and look out the window. Just look. What do you see? Well, we can tell you what we see from the 5th floor window of our school. We see smoke coming out of the chimney killing the O-zone layer. Our teacher Mr. Levent Eskicakit noticed before we did and decided to take action. He started his own elective: Environmental Issues here at the school. This elective has created an awareness in the whole school of the environmental problems in the communuty and the school. In order t do that we started a newsletter for the school with articles explaining what the problem is and what we think they could do to help. We had also noted that if they notice something, they should come and tell us and they can give their own opinion. We have also started a recycling program in the school (we had the bins but not the program) so we put our heads together and decided that we would go around the school and check what each and every class problem was in recycling. We observed that most of the students and teachers were not putting the correct article of garbage in the bins and we made banners and check lists to enforce this program and we have checked the bins every once in a while to make sure that the students and teachers are recycling corrcetly and since we started the program the school has improved greatly. The Environmental Issues elective class has a lot of work ahead of it. We have expanded our time to work together. We can help save our environment from total disaster and then (hopefully) we can help save the wrld from collapsing.
