Beckendorf Environmental Studies Team (B.E.S.T.) In cooperation with the Sam Houston State University professors, Dr. Peter Cooper, Dr. Jeannine Hirtle and Dr. Robin McGrew-Zoubi, Mrs. Taylor's sixth grade science students at Beckendorf Intermediate School in Tomball, Texas have formed B.E.S.T.(Beckendorf Environmental Studies Team). Students are piloting interactive computer software written by Dr. Cooper. Because we recognize the importance of teaching our students to investigate all sides of an issue, think things through, question everything and make educated unemotional decisions, we are investigating environmental issues. Students investigate various issues in an effort to make responsible choices. Already the students have investigated "The Migration of Foreign Predators Through the South" (Red Imported Fire Ants) and compiled their findings into PowerPoint presentations. Students will soon begin to investigate the possible ramifications of long-closed pipe lines thet lie just beneath the surface of our city. Tomball was once a Humble Oil Company Town. Students will utilize the internet and have access to the city manager and city engineer, among others in their quest to determine the possible dangers that these pipes pose. CARRIED OUT BY: Beckendoef Intermediate School, Science/Sixth Grade Tomball, TX, USA RESPONSIBLE TEACHER / SUPERVISOR: Mrs. Judy Taylor SCHOOL PRINCIPAL / GROUP DIRECTOR: Mrs. Delores Guidry, Principal
