Saving the Rainforest Longwood Elementary in Shalimar, Florida participated in a random act of kindness project to help save the rainforest in Guatemala. They held a coin drive, and sold rain forest Tee-shirts. The money they raised helped to save 20 acres at $35 per acre. The fourth grade studied the rainforest of the world as an intergrated thematic unit for nine weeks. The entire curriculum centered on the importance ot the rainforest throughout the world. All students at Longwood learned global awareness and that it is everyone's responsiblity to help save the rainforests because of the many products, animals, and medicines that come from them.
