Community Clean-Up  COMMUNITY

To avoid flooding, everybody needs to do clean-ups

The Friends of the Earth Club, which I belong to was inaugurated two years ago.

Our main aim is to protect the environment from flooding during the rainy season. To achieve this, we embarked upon draining gutters around government institutions like hospitals, schools, factories and other important places. We also saw the need to educate the public in order to prevent the dumping of refuse in gutters and along the road.

Therefore, a campaign was mounted in the media to educate the public on the effects of making the environment dirty and, hence, the need to be clean. In addition to this, they were made to know that choked gutters were the main cause of flooding in many countries thus resulting in deaths. They were also advised that the more we made the environment untidy, the more we were prone to health hazards.

Finally, we appealed to the government and non-governmental agencies to help fight this environmental problem.
