Operation "Shade": Planting of trees for shade and beautification We established a woodlot with 300 Senna siameas, leguminuous trees. The area, 2/3 of a hectare. This was a project aimed at conserving the soil nutrients in an area of the school compound. We planted at distances of 1m x 1m to avoid excessive branching and for the trees to have one straight bole. Branches pruned would serve as fuel wood for some members of the school staff community and some used them as stakes for the school vegetable garden. The trees would fulfill aesthetic needs of the school compound, provide shade and reduce soil erosion in the area. CARRIED OUT BY: Accra Academy School, Grade SSS 1-3 Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana RESPONSIBLE TEACHER / SUPERVISOR: Esther Asare SCHOOL PRINCIPAL / GROUP DIRECTOR: Bea Lokko(Mrs)
