Afforestation Needs The Concern Of All Individuals To Embark On I belong to the Environmental Protection Club in our school whose main aim is to protect the environment. Forestry in Ghana contributes to five to eight percent of the gross domestic product and accounts for about fifteen percent of merchandise export. However, the recent increase in deforestation has resulted in the change in climate, which the Environmental Protection Club is trying to combat. As part of our campaign against deforestation, we have been embarking on tree planting exercises to enhance good climatic conditions in our locality and also educating the public and the timber industries in Kumasi on the need to preserve the forest so as to protect the community from drought. Our next exercise is to seek permission from the Ministry of Science and Environment to take a tree planting exercise along some portions of the Volta Lake which is the main source of energy supply in the country, to improve the low level of water in the dam, which is causing the energy crises.
