Socialization and caucusing. Students are encouraged to meet and exchange contact information with other participants. Bring pins or view cards from the city you come from.

Conversation with Mr. Olara Otunnu, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. Mr. Otunnu will entertain questions and comments.

General Debate

All delegates are invited to address the conference. Those wishing to speak should enlist their names on the speakers’ list set at the beginning of this session.

There will be six designated speakers to begin, representing the six co-sponsors (for three minutes each). They are: Haley Edwards (Adolfo Camarillo High School, California), Daniela Olavarrieta (Colegio Carol Baur, Mexico City), Greg Perreault (BLC, Ontario), Sasha Kinney, (Upper Darby HS, Philadelphia), Dara Elovitch and Russell Eida, UN International School, New York, and Margaret Conway, Stuyvesant H.S. New York. All other speakers will have 90 seconds followed by comments for 30 seconds from the floor. The chairperson will go by the speakers’ list.

In the first plenary, all delegates will report on activities undertaken by them during the past 12 months.

- L U N C H

12:30 – 1:15 and 1:15 – 2:00

Lunch at the UN Delegates’ Dining Room will be served in two seatings as indicated above, 175 students and 50 teachers/parents in each group. Students not going to lunch will have an opportunity to meet and interact with four youth activists (their names listed below under "guest speakers"). Others can take a UN tour. Parents and teachers not going to lunch at 12:30 will attend a workshop by Ms. Susan Fountain (UNICEF) in Conference Room C on "Getting involved in youth activism." She will repeat the workshop at 1:15 p.m. for the group returning from lunch.

In this session, the delegates will speak on issues of their concern and on areas they would like to focus on or see progress.

Kids for kids: Conversations with child activists. Mr. Samil Chagpar (Canada), Ms. Lilia Vazquez (Mexico), Mr. Collen Pooe (South Africa) and Mr. Himanshu Dhillon (India).

3:45 – 4:12

Guest speaker: Mr. Giandomenico Picco, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the International Year of Dialogue among Civilizations (Year 2001). Mr. Picco will entertain questions and comments.

4:12 - 4:15

Presentation of Draft Declaration to the President of the General Assembly. The session chair will invite the students to present the Draft Declaration, which will follow with the vote.

4:30 – 4:55

Closing speech: Mr. Harri Holkeri, President of the 55th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

4:55 – 5:00

Group dance by students of Carol Baur Foundation (Mexico)

5:00 – 5:02

Special instructions:

· Please enter the UN Building through the Visitors’ Entrance at 1st Avenue and 46th Street. The gate opens at 9:00 a.m. It takes at least 15 minutes to pass the metal detector.

· Members of the Drafting Committee, the Chairpersons, and the six designated speakers are encouraged to contact Mr. John Gagain (jgagain@unausa.org) before arrival if you have any questions. Also, there will be a meeting for these three groups at 9:30am Dec. 8th in Room GA-100.
