Promoting Human Rights in the Light of Islam in Afghanistan 13 July 2007
Equal Access strengthens democratic principles and supports civil society within existing social, religious and cultural traditions in Afghanistan with an initiative, consisting of a radio drama, interviews and Human Rights leadership trainings. The Human Rights radio series “My Rights, Our Rights, Other’s Rights” supports with distinctly influenced Afghan music and an innovative dual language design (Pashto and Dari), a combination of guided conversations, engaged interviews, exciting serial dramas, to initiate and develop discussions about people’s rights and how they can be understood within a Islamic framework. The impact of this movie has been high in the rural areas, a letter to Equal Access reads the following: “After listening to a radio drama about forced marriage, a villager who had promised his daughter for marriage to an older man, changed his mind and asked her first, whether she was agreeable to the arrangement”.
