Learning about the UN can increase our awareness about the global dimensions of local issues and the local dimensions of global issues.
Classrooms can web-access UN educational and multimedia resources. These include award winning websites, such as the UN CyberSchoolBus and UN Works.
Scholars can visit UN archives, databases and statistics; as well as UN libraries and resources such as the Multilingual Thesaurus.
UN Websites help students to participate in, (and Schools to organize), a "Model United Nations". Classes can plan their visit and, even, take a virtual tour of the United Nations.

The United Nations is both participant in and a witness to increasingly global civil society.
The United Nations system has significant informal and formal arrangements with civil society organizations, collectively known as non-governmental organizations (NGOs). More and more, NGOs are UN system partners and valuable UN links to civil society. NGOs are consulted on UN policy and programme matters.
CSOs play a key role at major United Nations Conferences and as indispensable partners for UN efforts at the country level. At the same time, the UN is helping to promote the emergence of Civil Society Organizations in the developing countries.

The United Nations is opening doors, ever wider, in the UN system's cooperation with private enterprise.
United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) give added focus to eight UN system global priorities.
MDGs in such areas as education, HIV/AIDs, hunger, poverty and sustainble development, all call for enhanced UN system - private sector partnerships.
These are a few of the challenges that the UN faces; areas where private sector partnerships can be especially effective and complementary in carrying out the peace and security; the economic and social development tasks of the United Nations.

United Nations documents help make the work of the Organization more transparent and accessible to its global audience.

UN documents are a living part of history and are used as primary sources for research. Quite often they contain the substance and the facts behind a day's headlines.

Key UN documents, such as the Declaration on Human Rights are historic milestones.

UN documents can be official reports, or, the records and the resolutions of meetings. The UN system produces important and colourful publications, brochures, maps and magazines on a wide variety of global issues.

Many people think of Events at the UN in terms of international conferences, or, as meetings of the General Assembly, the Security Council and ECOSOC.

What is lesser known, is that the UN system Observes an Event filled Calendar of special Days, Weeks, Years, even Decades.

These Observances highlight the goals and the milestones of the community of Nations. Their themes promote many efforts of the United Nations and of Civil Society Organizations.

United Nations Day is October 24th.

Under-utilized resources, the texts of important statements at the United Nations are tools that can assist educators, students and public speakers with communicating ideas, explaining issues and offering insights to world affairs.

Some statements remain as memorable - even inspiring.

Statements articulate that which is at stake during important UN meetings and conferences. They summarize the challenges and the findings of UN reports, UN programmes, UN peacekeeping missions and other UN tasks.

They can promote UN Observances, such as the International Day of Peace.
